About the Study
Fatty liver disease often has no symptoms — until it does
Many people with fatty liver disease (MASLD) have no idea they have it. There are often no obvious signs until significant damage has already occurred.
Basil Clinical is enrolling a no-cost clinical study giving qualified participants access to advanced liver health screening, expert evaluation, and ongoing care — all while helping build treatments that actually reflect our communities.
Common risk factors to watch for
Obesity
Excess weight, especially around the midsection, is one of the strongest risk factors.
Elevated Liver Enzymes
High ALT or AST levels in bloodwork are among the most common indicators.
Type 2 Diabetes
About 55% of people with type 2 diabetes also have fatty liver disease.
High Cholesterol
High triglycerides and LDL cholesterol are closely linked to fatty liver risk.
The Technology
FibroScan® — painless, FDA-cleared liver imaging
FibroScan® uses an ultrasound-based probe placed gently on your skin to measure liver stiffness and fat content — no needles, no blood draws, no biopsy needed. You lie down, a technician gently presses a small device against your side, and results are available the same day.

Who Can Participate
You may qualify if you...
We're looking for adults who meet the following general criteria. A full screening is always free and comes with no obligation to enroll.
Are between 18 and 70 years old
Have a BMI of 27 or higher or have been told you have obesity
Have been told you have fatty liver disease or elevated liver enzymes
Have type 2 diabetes or pre-diabetes — or are unsure
Have cirrhosis or advanced liver scarring (not a requirement)
Can travel to our office in Jamaica, Queens, NY
Not sure if you qualify? Sign up anyway — our care team will walk you through a free pre-screening to find out. Many participants are referred by their doctor, but a referral is not required.

Dr. Avigayil Rapp is a board-certified internal medicine physician and Principal Investigator at Basil Clinical. She specializes in clinical research for metabolic, neuropsychiatric, and oncologic disorders. A former Harvard Medical School Clinical Instructor, Dr. Rapp brings academic excellence and extensive clinical trial leadership to every participant's care.
